Send In The Clowns (Not So Fast)

So if you support the New York Jets in any way, shape or form, I'm sure you we're probably as disgusted and embarrassed as I was at the end of this current season and the beginning of this off season.  The answer for this is that there is no easy answer/fix for them BUT there are a few things that can be done in order to salvage next season but it will depend on how creative and good the new GM will be.

Let's start with the Mexican Elephants in the room shall me (no point in delaying the inevitable). Sánchez is being paid a lot of money next year people. No one is taking that contract from us.  He is guaranteed too much money. The only trade I can see possible (maybe) is a trade with Seattle for Matt Flynn. Flynn has more years and money on his contract but has less guaranties money coming to him (meaning the Seahawks can cut him and pay him less then if they trades for Sánchez).  The reason why this might work is a few reasons. First, the Pete Carol connection.  Pete knows how to get the most out of Sánchez and if thrown into the fire because of an injury to Wilson, he may feel more comfortable with Sánchez than Flynn. Second, just the sheer money numbers. Sánchez has less money for less years then Flynn. If a trade can't be agreed upon, this contract (and Santonio Holmes) handcuffs us from going out and getting any other proven qb available.

Let me switch to the defense for a second. Landry and Bell at the safety position this season finaly gave us some stability in the back of the secondary. These guys need to be resigned at all costs. And by all costs, I mean releasing Bart Scott and Calvin Pace to free up the money needed. Drafting a LB (T'eo) is def a way to go as I would also suggest possibly going after Osi to have someone that can teach by example.  After that, getting Revis back (possibly solidifying the best secondary in the game) is huge.  The Jets DeF wasn't the greatest but wasn't the worst. Getting to the QB should be their main focus once locking up the safety's.

Back on the Ranch (better known as the offense), I'm going to go with the reality that we can't deal Sánchez and he will be the QB again.  A few things need to happen. First keeping legit wide receivers. Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Jeremy Kelley and Steven Hill as the 4th receiver is ok with me. Especially since you can probably keep Edwards cheap. To be honest, I would be happy with an ochocinco signing. He would be super cheap and I think he has something to prove. His persona and attitude would fit right in too.

Here is my wish. I hope that the new GM will be this good,  In order to make Sánchez a workable QB, people have to fear your running game. This is simple right?  It opens up the wide receivers more and keeps def's honest. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in super rebuild mode. They Franchised MJD last year and then MJD did them a solid and basically sat out the year after getting hurt. With a new GM and a new coach, MJD may be up for the most draft picks. Of I we're completely starting over, that's what I would do anyway. The Jets need to give whatever needed to get MJD if they can. This would make people fear the run game and give Sánchez time and open opportunities down field in the passing games.

I know a lot of you are saying I'm crazy, and none of this will happen, but if the new GM wants to prove himself, this is how to do it.  EARN IT!!!  Oh and by the way, I forgot one person. Tim Tebow.  As everyone has him written off, I think someone needs to give this guy an option. Sit down with him and say "Tim, we screwed you last year and we're sorry but reality is, even though you want to be a starting QB, your not and no other team is going to give you shot.  So let's convert you to a fullback/tightend, and get you on the field more to keep you in this league because you are a football player just not a QB. If you think someone will give you a backup job, and you want to go for it let us know and we'll release you today. Your call".  #justsayin

I'm Back!!!! (NBA & NHL edition)

Alright, since most of you could care less about basketball and/or hockey I'll try not to bore you and make this as quick and painless as possible.

NBA

Knicks - When the Knicks we're signing Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby, Kurt Thomas and yes even Jason Kidd, most people we're wondering "is this a current knick team, or a team that would have been good 10 years ago".  Well a lot of people got those words shoved right back in their mouth (including myself to a point). The veteran leadership of this team now, everyone knowing their roll on the team, the defensive focus and Carmelo Anthony playing unselfishly when needed and being the pure scorer the rest is becoming a winning combo most New Yorkers can grow to love for years.

If I told you that the Knicks would be in a bit of a slump and that They would be 21-9 after 30 games, you would have laughed at me a few months ago.  One of the keys to this run is the personal brought here.  Chandler may be one of the most intense player I have seen in a while. His passion on defense and in the game in general, reminds me of Oakley.  Felton has come back here and made say, "why did we even question giving Lin all that money?".  His play so far has been brilliant along with Mr. Reliable, Jason Kidd.  His leadership and stability on and off the quart has taken a talented group of guys and given then a direction and focus.

One other thing that helps them this season is the unsung hero's of most teams.  THE BENCH!!!  JR Smith has been nothing short of amazing this season with the way he has embarrassed this team and the 6th man roll. Wallace has played well and given Chandler some time to breath without a total defensive collapse. Then there is "Novocain" Novak (Discount Double check).  My man is one of the best catch and shot 3 guys since Reggie miller.  We are a few weeks away from getting Amaire and Shumpert back too.  These guys haven't even played yet!

I know a lot of you don't care or won't till playoff time but it's an exciting year to be a knick fan again.

Nets - First I have to say I am impressed with the moves that the nets made in the off season to become contenders. Joe and Wallace we're big signings.  But as the knocks, the Nets with be playing the "Can we catch Miami" game until they do best them.  I hear the Barclay Center is amazing (haven't been yet but intend on going).  This is what I don't get so far.  The Nets started out smoking hot for a while. The coach wins "coach of the month" and they have an awful December and he gets fired even thought they are still a .500 basketball team.  These owners sometimes don't have the patience they need to let these developing teams go through some of "growing pains" needed to develop.  It's pretty sad and I feel for Avery Johnson.

NBA - Most of the league is where they need to be.  Heat are on top, OKC is on top, Spurs are doing their thing and Chicago is buying time till rose can come back.  The clippers have been amazing so far.  They just went through a month where they didn't lose a game! Golden State is doing better then anyone could have ever expected (David Lee what's up!), and at times Memphis has looked great as well

Two of the biggest disappointments this year need to the Mavs and the Lakers.  Both have struggled to look good and both have looked completely lost.  There can be blame to players being hurt but these teams aren't gelling this year. Most notably, the Lakers.  Spent a ton of money and power trying to get what they thought was a sure fire All start cast here, hasn't worked out so far.  But who knows with that team, Koby is a beast.

NHL

This League is just an embarrassment to everyone.  Two lockouts/strikes in 10 years is a joke.  For a sport that comes in a distant second to the other 3 and needs to gain fans as much as possible, I think they need to put themselves into perspective here and realize they can't do this.  You won't ever be able to retain fans this was.  M an up finish this deal and let's get the move on.  Or just let the Canadians figure it out and I'll watch that for all I care

I'm Back!!!! (MLB Edition)

Only 30 or so days until pitcher and catchers. And for us NY football fans that may have to be what we're looking forward too

MLB

Yankees - This off season has been an interesting one but I feel as though there is still some work to be done.  First of all we are walking into this season so far without a major league proven catcher.  Me personally, I am ok with having Romin and Cervelli split time considering some of the options out the.  I mean is Rod Barajas really the answer?  Anyway, we go into this off season and learn we will be without A-Rod until the All-star break. I know you all love hating on A-Rod but as a serious statement, that's about 10-14 homeruns and 50 or so RBI's needing to be replaced before he returns. Same goes for Swisher leaving in right field. Between the 2, that's about 40 home runs 140 rbi's and an on base percentage of .360 for 2 guys. Yankees answer with Ichiro and Youkilis.

Some Yankee fans hated the Youk signing because of the Red Sox days and I have to say I hated him too during that time. But I hated him because he crushed us.  He was bean towns version of Paul. O'Neil and I didn't want them to have that. The guy could play ball and could rise to the occasion in the big spot.  This is why he will be perfect here. For of you morons that are like "he's a red sock, I'll never like him" think of this, were you cheering for Wade Boggs when he was ridding a house around the outfield after the world series? Happy to see Clemons shut all those teams down (before any steroid news came out)? Cheered Johnny Damon when he stole third with no one there in the world series?  Ever say I don't except Babe Ruth as a Yankee because he was a red sock first?  The answer to all those is most likely no and there will be cheers the first time you see him hit a homer over the green monster in pinstripes.

Youk and Ichiro should cover the Swisher A-Rod stats but as mentions earlier, catcher is a question mark. As well as some timely bench players. Jones, Chávez and Ibanez gone, there is a need for some good bench player there. Just feel as though we still need to make a few moves here

Mets - Where to start with them. I don' care what people say, and I am sorry to see him go, but the Dickey trade was a good trade at the time of the deal.  We will see what the future holds.  If these kids turn out to be a bust and Dickey wins 2 more CY Young awards well then we can second guess.  When you don't ant to spend money, trading is the only way to gain talent.  But forget that, there are no real outfielder on this them at the moment!!! Duda is a question mark at best and this team is without any real center and left fielders.  Plus an entire overhaul of the bullpen again, is worrisome.  There is much left to do with not much time left to do it!  I do think that the pitching staff this year even without Dickey will pitch well.  Santana, Niece, Gee, Harvey and Wheeler (Young until Wheeler gets here) should be solid.

MLB - Did the Angels really need Hamilton to Protect Pujols in the line up?  The red sux are making some interesting moves but nothing to earth shattering. The Jays are trying to make a move up in the ranks in the AL East this year but I still feel it's the Yankees division to lose. The Marlins did what we all knew they would do, dump all the guys they signed a year later.  It should be interesting to see how this all plays out bright now the Angels look to be the big winners, with the Jays not to far off. But in the end it's the injury bug that does most teams in. The GM that prepared and adjusts for that bug always comes out on top. BTW 56 million for Swisher. Wow, I'm in the wrong business!

I'm Back!!! (NFL edition)

Sorry for being MIA everyone.  I know there has been lots to talk about and I haven't said anything so I'll go over every NY sports team one by one, sport by sport and rant about the chaos in each.  Let's starts with one that's dear to everyone heart

NFL
Jets - I start with them not because they have been the best or the worst on the league but because they are the biggest mess I have seen since the "Rich Kotite" days.  Tim Tebow got screwed. Never got a real shot to play ere which is sad because it the team really was committed to the "ground and pound" system, he was probably the best qb on the roster to do it. Green needed help running the ball and Tim could have did that. After an entire season too no one can say that if you limited Tebow to 20 or so throws a game, he wouldn't have done what Sánchez did.

But past that, with the past few weeks and the qb craziness it has made something clear to me. Rex Ryan never wanted Tebow. And if he ever did at the beginning, something changes his mind throughout the season. Kid can't get into the game and then they say he quit on them to make him look bad and not them. Tebow comes out and says that's a lie and why would anyone not believe him and believe the Jets..... he does have better credibility then the team at this point. Then for good measure a report comes out that Ryan wants to quit as coach. What a joke

The sad fact is. It's time to blow it all up. Well most of it.  Small fact that no one knows is that the jets def has not given up one 100 yard receiver all season. And that's with Revis being down most of the season.  The secondary is nasty good.  It's the front that was the issue but even with that, the def has kept them in all but maybe 3 games all season. This offense is terrible. Your wide receivers are sub par. Adding Edwards should have happened in the off season not week 15. With him it's a little more stable but still not great. Question is what will it look like next season. Without good wide outs, it won't matter who is at qb.  Green is a free agent and I say good riddance. Keller is a free agent and I say good riddance.

I wish Sánchez was a free agent too but really, we're stuck with him. There is only one way I see anyone taking Sánchez's contract. Trading it for another bad contract. Brings me to the Sánchez for Matt Flynn trade I hope for. Money is similar (Mark has more guarantied money) and Pete Carol, Sánchez connection may work for the backup roll there but who knows. Whatever they do, they need to do something this team is a mess and needs help.

Giants - I don't know why anyone is surprised and upset with what the GMen did this year. In the past 5 years they have won 2 superbowls and haven't been to the playoffs the other 3. They are all or nothing. Giants fans, you need to face facts, you have a good team that is probably the most inconsistent team in football. If they could figure out some consistency, they would be nasty but instead you have a team that is soft.  A team that at any time can go on a run better that anyone else and win the Superbowl but a team that can score 54 points one week and. 0 the next. I don't know what it is because the talent is there the coaching is there but the passion isn't sometimes. It's like they are so cocky they expect to be in the playoffs no matter how they play and unfortunately for them, it doesn't work like that. Till next year gmen fans. You'll just have to deal with the fact your team went as far as the jets, jabs, chiefs, saints and Steelers this year except you have a worse draft position then they all do

NFL in General - this year has been crazy. In my opinion there is no clear cut great team out there. Atlanta has to prove they can win in post season, Houston looks soft at times, Pats def isn't great, San Fran has a better shot with Alex Smith Then Kapernick but won't play him, and the Seahawks and Ravens have so many ?, it's scary (hey diddle diddle, Ray Rice up the middle).  It's anyone's league this year. My opinion so far is it looks like Greenbay and Denver have figured it out after a slow start. They will be the one's to watch out for. Nice Superbowl if Payton makes it after everything that happened to him last season/off-season. Would be a nice story of he wins it in his home town too

Tebow Time! No Really

Alright, I know what your all thinking. Either "your crazy" or your a Tebow lover, crazy know nothing about football but support a person rant type of person. Please take a second to process this logically

Look at the team the jets currently have. There is no legit big time receivers on this team. Kerley is a great find and Hill can develop but right now, nothing. Our running back is prob at best a really good back up.

This team is built for a run first, throw at most 22/25 times a game offense. Let me state this, MARK SANCHEZ IS A BETTER ALL AROUND QB THEN TEBOW. In saying that, This team is currently built better for Tim Tebow.

Your best running back is Tim Tebow. With him, Greene and McKnight (yes McKnight) in the backfield, they shouldn't be throwing much which is good for Tebow. Sexy Jesus would be a better option to scramble then Mark. With the joke of a wide receiver core they have, it wouldn't make a difference because they wouldn't be throwing much. Few deep passes to keep then honest and screen "dink and dunk" plays

With a more focused and in my opinion, productive running attack, it would help shorten the game and keep the defense off the field. Defenses play better when there not on the field 70% of the game (so I hear).

Bottom line is at this point it's go time with this. Either Sexy Jesus is your guy or Mark. One needs to go next year and don't care which one it is as long as they win. #justsayin

BTW - Congrats to Angelo and Michelle on their wedding today (I am blogging while I wait for the wedding to start). God Bless

Adventures of Pennington Week 7

Well everyone. It's been 2 weeks and we have the good an the bad in Jetville. First the good

The Jets looked impressive verse the half hearted Colts a few weeks ago. They did all the right things and pushed all the right buttons. Green figured out how to run the ball and the def looked terrific.

This past week Gang Green started off with an impressive drive. The. They were quiet for a while. Keepin themself in the game but not winning I thought we were lookin at the same old Jets. Something wonderful happened after that! They came back, showed some brass and tied the game. And I. Te next kick off the unthinkable happened. They recovered a fumble!!!! Folks, I thought "we gottem". This is ours for the taking. But instead of going in for the kill and throwing everything at tired Pats Def, they pleated it super conservative (not scared folks) and were constant with a field goal. Big mistake. Crushing mistake. Brady bunch came down ties the game and made short work of OT winning by 3.

This hurts because we had them. We had them. This does prove something though. The Pats aren't "The Pats" this year and next time in our building, we can get them.

Folks this week is a must win. I know we lose to the Fins once every year for some strange reason but we need this one. Division game, back to .500 hard few games ahead. So I leave you with a "squish the fish" chant in your head. Back to the garden. It's gettin called out here by the way!!

Fire Joe Girardi

Listen. I get the experiments with lefty right hitters. I have to sit though the crappy "calculated" "spreadsheet" decisions throughout the year Joe Girardi makes with every pitching change. He has just gotten on my last nerve

Benching ARod night be the worst, bias, self centered decision I have ever seen. I don't understand why Joe has such a hatred for ARod but he obviously has an agenda.

For all of u idiot, yes idiots, out there trying to defend this or prove me wrong explain this. ARod I out because he hasn't hit and can't hit right handers right. Well Granderson has looked the most lost at the plate and has more strike outs then ARod but he's in the line up. Gardner proved he can swing a bat the other day and you may actually gain better defense with him in.

Swish prob has the most upside of the 4 not hitting this series but is by far the worst fielder. There better be a def replacement action for him.

By far, one of the worst hitters we have had in the line up this post season has been Robertson Cano. There's no talk of replacing him. Why? Because there is no one better to replace him. An the only reason he hasn't been the worst is because the guy we have REPLACING AROD is 0-15 with 8 K's!!!!!! That's right we are replacing ARod with our worst hitter this post season who doesn't play better def.

This is a joke. Everyone has an agenda and I would rather see AROD strike out 3 times tonight then Eric Chavez. Girardi needs to go. After Jeter gets hurt benching ARod, someone that might have been able to step up and be a leader, is not the way you to do things. He's pissed Alex gave a Australian BIKINI MODEL his phone number at the end of a game. Get over it. The chick was hot and he sent te ball boy up to see if e could get laid later. Guess what Joe, since you benched him and he's not playing anyway it looked like a good decision now to me on ARods part!
